DETAILS OF NOTE

Everything’s for sale. The couch, the lamp, the tin lunchbox your condiments came in – even the Pyrex on the back bar. It’s a fully functioning thrift shop layered over a high-performing cocktail program, complete with a working 1964 Wurlitzer jukebox loaded with hip-hop 45s.

BEHIND THE SCENES

A dedicated bar prep lab—complete with centrifuge, rotovap, and carbonation rig—powers the menu while a custom, in-house engineered clear-block ice machine lets bartenders hand-cut spears and cubes to spec.

Mount Pleasant Vintage & Provisions was built for its neighbourhood and it shows. Set inside a restored 120-year-old heritage house in Mount Pleasant, the bar channels a familiar, lived-in warmth with mixed-direction wood slat walls, avocado-green Swedish wallpaper, framed posters, and a yellow-tiled kitchen, but all spiked with counterculture swagger. Outside, turf and mismatched lawn chairs frame skyline views of Vancouver and the North Shore mountains while murals by Steen Jones stitch the front and back patios into the story.

The concept is disarmingly simple and brilliantly executed: a neighbourhood cocktail bar and wood-fired grill masquerading as a vintage resale shop. Everything is tagged and for sale, from mid-century lamps to postmodern chairs, so the room constantly evolves as pieces come and go. That retail layer never overwhelms the hospitality; it invites play and conversation. Hosts greet with a “yes” mindset – dogs welcome on the patio – and explain the thrift-shop twist as guests settle with complimentary filtered water.

At the bar, the tone is friendly on the surface and exacting underneath. Classics are crisp, modern builds are precise, and the hit list ranges from signature cocktails to slushies, backed by a rotating selection of classics that changes every week or two. Owner Cam Bogue has engineered a custom clear-block ice machine which enhances the visual presentation; bartenders hand-cut spears and cubes to fit each drink, calibrating dilution and texture. Behind the scenes, a rotovap, centrifuge, carbonation rig and four draft taps support clarification, rapid infusion and canned highballs chilled to spec – tech deployed in service of approachability, not spectacle. The best-seller, Five Alive, telegraphs that balance of fun and craft, and the seven zero-proof options are built from scratch with house cordials and premium N/A spirits.

Service is paced with intent: orders within two minutes, cocktails on the table around the five-minute mark, food arriving family-style from a live-fire hearth that skips natural gas entirely. At the end of the night, bills land on custom postcards printed with the bar’s patio murals that serve as an on-brand keepsake guests tend to pocket. Underpinning all of this is a soundtrack featuring underground hip-hop by day, giving way to DJs who read the room rather than dominate it, keeping conversation audible while the energy hums.

Beyond the drinks, community runs through the operation. “Mixed Education” seminars bring guest educators for the team and local industry; regulars get “locals-first” reservations; and the space is loaned for fundraisers and artist launches. Accessibility is baked in with a single-level floor plan, ramp entry, widened walkways and additional accessible washrooms. Sustainability is practical, not performative: vintage furnishings extend their lives, waste is tracked and composted, bottled water is out, filtration is in.

“The drinks were simple in presentation but exceptionally well balanced and provided a great depth of flavour. A fantastic experience throughout with all the staff working together to provide the same for each guest.”
