IMPORTANT TO KNOW
MÍRATE’s back bar contains only Mexican-made spirits. Tequila, mezcal, gin, whiskey, rum and more are sourced exclusively from independent Mexican producers. The team sees this as both a cultural mission and an educational opportunity, so every drink ordered here is also a direct connection to the makers behind it.
DETAILS OF NOTE
The 35-page beverage zine doubles as an education piece: rotating cocktails, ancestral beverages, and a region-by-region spirits atlas. One-third of the backbar is private batches; the well showcases Mexican-made spirits chosen for integrity. Expect house tepache or nitro pulque “splashes,” minimal garnishes, pre-chilled glassware, tailored ice, and The Güero leading sales.
1
Tucked discreetly into Los Feliz, MÍRATE reveals itself slowly. Guests step through an understated entrance into a layered, open-air space filled with music, the soft glow of mood lighting, and the scent of sage or palo santo drifting across the room. It’s a venue designed to feel alive, not staged, and that immediacy sets the tone for what follows.
At the core of MÍRATE’s identity is a singular commitment: every spirit behind the bar comes from Mexico. Tequila and mezcal naturally lead the way, but guests will also encounter Mexican gin, rum, whiskey, and even agave-based liqueurs, all sourced from independent producers. It’s a collection that speaks less to brand recognition and more to cultural pride and education, with bartenders guiding guests through regions and producers that rarely surface outside Mexico.
The drinks themselves reflect a balance between tradition and technique. Clarification, cryo-infusions, and ultrasonic homogenisation are used where they make sense, but never overshadow flavour. Cocktails are served with minimal, thoughtful garnish, allowing the focus to remain on the spirit and story. Alongside the alcoholic programme is a serious non-alcoholic selection: seven drinks rooted in Mexican culinary tradition, including tepache and nitro pulque, crafted with the same attention to process and flavour as the cocktails.
MÍRATE’s menu underscores this storytelling approach, presented as a 35-page zine, it pairs cocktails with archetypal Mexican identities and organises spirits by region. For newcomers, it functions as both guidebook and invitation; for regulars, it’s a keepsake, each edition reflecting the ongoing dialogue between culture, producers and bartenders. Guests often linger with it in hand, discovering details that make their drink feel connected to a wider story.
Hospitality here is attentive but never overbearing. Servers and bartenders alike are trained to meet guests where they are – whether guiding a spirit novice through an approachable entry point or sharing in-depth knowledge with collectors and enthusiasts. The team reflects Los Angeles’ diversity, with equity and inclusivity built into hiring and training. Staff development emphasises both technical craft and wellbeing, creating a culture of mutual respect that translates into warm, confident service.
Sustainability is another throughline, visible in the careful sourcing of ingredients, waste reduction, and a preference for small-batch, ethical producers. The design reflects the same ethos, blending budget-conscious renovation with thoughtful touches that highlight outdoor space and natural flow. Music, scent, and lighting are calibrated to shift the energy across the evening, creating a sensory environment that feels immersive without ever tipping into theatre.
Ultimately, MÍRATE is more than a bar—it is a cultural statement. By centring Mexican producers, traditions, and flavours, while presenting them with technical precision and modern hospitality, it transforms a night out in Los Angeles into a journey across Mexico’s spirit-making landscape.
“The drinks were flavourful, refreshing, and appropriately spirit-forward, utilising a lot of unique ingredients that seem aligned with their concept.”
