Lucky7 brings the concept of East Meets West to life in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, through a vibrant cocktail menu that celebrates esoteric ingredients from East Asian pantries. With a focus on blending the familiar with the exotic, this bar offers a unique drinking experience that showcases both worlds.

This small bar’s aesthetic is warm and inviting, enhanced by a soft glow from red neon lights and personal mushroom lamps at each table. Light beech wood tables and simple yet comfortable chairs create a cosy atmosphere, while decor inspired by East Asian culture offers guests an escape from the everyday. The bar itself serves as a dispense station rather than a traditional seating area, meaning guests to Lucky7 are all seated at the tables. Additionally, windows and any natural light is blacked-out to ensure the mood is always intimate. 

The cocktail menu is thoughtfully divided into three sections, alongside a selection of sake and beer. The East Meets West section features innovative cocktails that infuse traditional Western styles with Asian flavour. In Old & New, preserved ingredients from the past meet fresh, seasonal produce, while the classics section honours beloved recipes while introducing subtle Asian influences. Throughout the menu guests can experience ingredients like yuzu, sudachi, natsudaidai, shikuwasa, kabosu and calamansi – which are preserved using old fashioned techniques to maximise the life span of these exotic and hard-to-source ingredients. All ingredients are weighed to 0.1g with times marked to the minute and temperatures to within a single degree Celsius. 

Cocktail presentation is key, with a focus on beautiful and interesting serviceware that is exclusive to Lucky7. The use of five different ice shapes and minimal, edible garnishes further elevates the cocktails, ensuring that every detail is on point. This commitment to high-quality ingredients extends to the selection of spirits with the venue specialising in Asian spirits such as Sake, Soju, Shochu, and Baijiu. 

Non-alcoholic offerings at Lucky7 are equally creative and thoughtfully crafted. The ‘Fun with No Booze’ menu features unique expressions that stand on their own, developed with the same attention to detail as the alcoholic cocktails. 

With a curated playlist that incorporates music from Japanese, Chinese, and Korean cultures, the atmosphere at Lucky7 is as much about the sound as it is about the taste. Guests can scan a QR code to access the playlist, creating a multisensory experience that enhances their time at the bar.

This tiny bar has an equally tiny team behind it – a husband and wife duo, Kyndra Vorster and Robert Wood. While they’ve yet to employ any additional team members, they have worked hard to ensure they’re set up for success when they do – by focussing on policies and strategies that are inclusive and welcoming to all people. As a business they are dedicated to reducing, repairing and repurposing – and have partnered with TreeApp – a B Corp certified business which helps reforest the world. They recently planted 365 trees to celebrate the bar’s first anniversary.
