London, UK

One of London’s most iconic hotel bars, Artesian combines incredibly warm and attentive service, with highly imaginative cocktails.

The Pinnacle Guide assesses bars against eight areas of excellence, following a rigorous self-application process and anonymous in-bar reviews. Find out more about this process and apply as a bar here.

Artesian has implemented many environmental initiatives, and their whole cocktail menu is created around sustainable ingredients. They use the Orca food waste digester system, make food donations to charity through Plan Zheroes, focus on the use of local and sustainably sourced food products and use biodegradable cleaning products.

Artesian is named for the 365-foot-deep well beneath the hotel and its striking interiors are designed by David Collins’ Studio. The full bar team are involved in the creation of their drinks menus, with each team member encouraged to utilise and develop their own scientific approach to cocktail making.

Finding its home inside the The Langham hotel on London’s Regent Street, Artesian is a heady mix of polished art deco and Southeast Asian influences that combine in its tiered brass chandeliers, white panelled walls inlaid with mirrored glass and rich purple seating. Its high ceilings and bay windows mean the ornate decor feels considered rather than busy however, and as the daylight fades, guests will find a warmth to the space that allows time to seamlessly melt away.

While staying true to luxury hotel service, Artesian is interestingly one of the few bars of its calibre that allow for standing guests, meaning the bar can have a busy, jovial atmosphere, depending on when it’s visited. This is further enhanced by its often playful cocktail serves that it is so well known for. Over the years (the bar opened in 2007) guests have drunk from a myriad of custom vessels – golden pineapples and fish bowls included, but if a more pared-back style is preferred – rest assured cocktails will still be highly conceptual and inventive. The team use their menus as a place to have conversations about ingredients, the environment, personal connections, and even what they believe will be the future of cocktails.

The Artesian Laboratory is a dedicated space for the bar team to create, experiment and prepare components for the drinks. This lab features a number of pieces of high tech equipment including centrifuges and rotavaps, used alongside robust procedures and training to ensure consistency in everything they make. Ingredients are selected for their near-extraordinary characteristics and profiles, as well as their sustainability.

Away from drinks, the Artesian team pride themselves on taking care of their staff – and have created a Wellbeing Policy which is a strategic plan to protect mental, physical and financial wellbeing. They have recently celebrated some newly qualified Mental Health First Aiders within the team, have a LGBTQIA+ champion and all staff are expected to attend ‘how to be an ally’ training. The team is female led, with both the Head Bartender and Bar Manager roles occupied by women.

Guests can expect truly outstanding service here, with genuine engagement being highly valued by both regulars and those visiting for the first time. From the complimentary welcome drink and bar snacks to the curated playlist, everything at Artesian has been designed to welcome and transport guests away.

"From the doorman at the front of the hotel, through to the host at the bar reception and all the staff working within the bar - everyone had a genuine sense of care that made me feel I could just float along carefree."
