BEHIND THE SCENES
1930 runs on a dedicated lab kitted out with rotary evaporators, centrifuges, and fermenters, allowing the team to treat cocktail prep with the precision of a kitchen. Daily briefings and a merit-based approach keep the small five-person crew aligned and constantly developing.
DETAILS OF NOTE
Don’t miss the 1960s jukebox – still filled with authentic vinyl – that lets guests shape the soundtrack of their evening. Other thoughtful touches that the team bring to the experience include a curated selection of books for guests to enjoy whilst at the bar.

Tucked discreetly underground, 1930 Cocktail Bar captures the allure of a hidden Milanese speakeasy. With just 32 seats, the bar is intimate by design with exposed seventeenth-century brick vaults, walnut and rattan details, and Calacatta Oro marble all contributing to an atmosphere that feels timeless, elegant, and slightly clandestine.
Guests are welcomed with efficiency and warmth and during aperitivo, bowls of taralli, Galician almonds and olives arrive alongside menus, a quiet signal of hospitality rooted in Italian tradition. The menus themselves are artworks. Large-format prints have been illustrated by a local artist while the leather holders are made by a Milanese craftsman. Their structure mirrors a restaurant, with cocktails presented as “starters,” “first courses,” “mains,” and “desserts,” reinforcing the bar’s philosophy that drinking here should feel like a full gastronomic journey.
That philosophy runs through everything on offer. Drinks blur the line between liquid and solid, with creations that might arrive as edible bites, cocktails plated like dishes, or hybrids in between. The best-selling Ceviche de Pescado exemplifies this approach as a cocktail inspired by a classic dish that is layered with unexpected flavour and texture. The menu does change every two months, driven by seasonal ingredients and discoveries from the team’s travels, but signatures are always available for guests to order. The team credit collaboration as the key to the menu – new ideas are pitched, refined together, and only then find their way to be listed.
Behind the scenes, the level of technical control is remarkable. The prep lab houses a rotary evaporator, homogenisers, centrifuges, and induction cooktops, giving the team the tools of both kitchen and distillery. At the heart of the cocktails are spirits chosen with care, often from small producers rather than global brands. House pours are crafted to specification, including everything from infused gins to barrel-aged amari, and the team even produces special ice, such as cachaça-infused cubes for bespoke Caipirinhas.
Service is equally intentional. Every front-of-house member is a bartender, able to make and talk through cocktails tableside. Drinks arrive with minimal but meaningful garnishes, often paired with a small bite to amplify flavour, while non-alcoholic drinks are given equal weight, ensuring all guests can enjoy the experience.
1930 also invests in its people. Regular internal masterclasses and external training are covered by the bar, and many alumni have gone on to prominent positions in the industry. Staff wellbeing is supported by defined working hours, fair tip distribution, paid prep shifts, and team-building trips to the group’s farm by Lake Iseo. This community ethos extends to monthly gastronomic events, Christmas aperitifs, and seasonal neighbourhood markets, connecting 1930 to its local audience.
The result is a bar that feels both rarefied and rooted: exclusive yet community-minded, technically advanced yet warm. At 1930 Cocktail Bar, Milan’s past and future meet in every glass.
“A one-of-a-kind place, both in terms of atmosphere, offerings, and concept. A top-notch staff, capable of pampering guests effectively, kindly and professionally.”
